Punk News Is Stoked!!!

Sunday, January 24, 2010

So here's some actual news involving our record!

  • Punknews will be streaming our album the week before its release
  • We are releasing the album digitally via Death To False Hope Records on February 15th
  • We will be playing on Feb 15th at Ronny's in Logan Square (Chicago) with Imadethismistake (RI), Johnny Bodacious & The Bad Attitudes, and Everything Is Ruined. It will be our record release show, but it will also be other things, like an awesome night (despite being a Monday and 21+)
  • All Ages Radio out in Naperville had us on the number one spot on their countdown Friday night, which has us stoked. They live on the internet here, and there is also an archive of the show: http://www.wonc.org/ and it's 89.1fm in the western suburbs of Chicago
Also
  • One of the first reviews of our debut album has surfaced on the blog Can You See The Sunset From The South Side? (Lifetime reference, yes!!!).  Some of my favorite parts of the review include but are not limited to:

"I’m a sucker for gritty pop punk, and while this isn’t gritty in a gruff way, it borders on being lo-fi and ramshackle so, yeah, I pretty much love it."

"It’s almost as if The Please & Thank Yous would be perfect as an indie prom dance band."

The entire review can be read here:

More to come!

Holy Hell!

This Shit Is Genius

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

our spring break tour is shaping up to look pretty badass. still working on a couple of dates with some friends, but we should be pretty much set, and two months in advance at that!!! it's a beautiful thing.

so we are a little obsessed with nicolas cage here at tpaty...at least i am. check the website off to the side titled "Nicolas Cage...AS EVERYONE" ... they post too many of these a day to keep up. here's some of my favorites from the last two days.

Band Descriptions That Grind Our Gears

Monday, January 11, 2010

We got reviewed by our Alaskan comrade over at Blogging Nothing Out Of Something. Here's what she had to say about our unofficial album's worth of demo material:

The please & thank yous are a punk band from Chicago. Their sound is a mix of the noodling bass lines of early Alkaline Trio (think "Nose Over Tail" and "Clavicle"), the honest lyrics and raw vocals of the Promise Ring, the catchiness and energy of the Ergs!, and the badass drumming of Lifetime. They remind me of Dear Landlord a lot, which I consider to be a great thing.Thank Yous... is a compilation of various demos and live tracks that the band has recorded from 2007-2009. All of the eleven tracks on the compilation are worth the listen, though the acoustic tracks do seem a little awkward and lose the album a little steam, it's not enough to take away from the rest of the songs. tpaty have an album coming out early next year, so watch out for that, and I'll try and keep you updated.

Probably the most flattering review we'll ever get! <3 That's like, all our favorite bands in one review.

Moving on...

"
--------- is the creative partnership between friends ------- ------, ----- ------, and ----- ------. Combining their unique musical tastes, hypnotic riffs, driving bass rhythms, and fierce drumming, Aetiology seeks to enhance the beauty of music's natural qualities through a distinctive fusion of subtle, luminous cascades of digital electronic sounds, and traditional rock instrumentation.
"

...really? this tells us absolutely nothing about your band, other than that you're generically pretentious. "creative partnership"? like, coitus?

Don't Get Too Stoked, But...

Friday, January 08, 2010

we're going on tour with our BRO(!) from rockford, illinois, affectionately known as warren franklin. get into it, eh?

we're also working on a spring break tour. march 20-28. w00t. i guess we should be careful not to get too stoked on the road. after seeing the horrific newscast that follows, obama said that the next domestic war to be waged is the war on getting stoked:

Woah, Bro

Sunday, January 03, 2010

that last post is even more meaningful to me now, because tonight at ian's party, mikey erg! played guitar for the dopamines. it was stokeful. i grabbed his thigh.

in other news, we got written up in the Reader. they called our lyrics "wishy-washy" ... can that be used as a compliment, or did we just get dissed hard on the internuts? either way i'm fucking stoked we got mentioned on such an incredible bill.

"
The Please & Thank-Yous sound like Weezer Lite, but in a good way. Their simple, dreamy guitar melodies, wishy-washy lyrics, and emotionally charged background vocals make for perfect bop-your-head-to-it pop punk. (Playing the Gasthaus at 10:10 PM.)
