Tonight, I left my apartment with my friend James, around 8:40pm. We got to the warehouse space currently known as Treasure Town at 9:01 and walked inside. At this point, I was stoked on expecting to see Sass Dragons and Like Bats play a show. I was in for probably the best music-scene-involved surprise I will experience all year.

There were six bands on the bill. I only knew about Like Bats and Sass Dragons. Kris DB's been raving about this Boilerman band for a few weeks now, and I didn't really think anything of it, let alone think it was a band fronted by a friend of mine.

I read on the Midwest Punk Collective that my friend Jim's band had posted some demos, and when I checked them out they were really good. It took me til tonight to find out that Jim's band is Boilerman. He told me his band was opening the show.

"Oh, what's it called?"
"Oh, nice!"

I'm realizing that this whole show review could go on for a long time. Instead, you should just go to the Boilerman link, which is a site that is dedicated to streaming their download (also available for download), and bare in mind that Lemuria headlined this show. Something I left my apartment not expect when I left my apartment with James at 8:40pm. Sass Dragons are such awesome guys, and the two Ohio bands The Buster League and You'll Get Yours were great musically and duderally. I'll try to get some pictures of this. Totally regret not bringing my video camera :-/

...And The Review Train Keeps A'Rollin

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Today's review of our album Mind Yr P's & Q's is from a site called Guitars, Drums, Tones, and Saxophones. The writer shares our love of Mallrats and also compares us to our favorite band! The whole thing can be found here, but here's some of it:

There’s a pop-punk thing going on here, but it’s not the Ramones-core pop-punk that’s “in” right now; rather, they’re more in the camp of the Lemuria-types, playing music that combines indie rock influences/sensibilities with that of pop-punk.

The chorus is infectious and, if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself singing “I’m all about fucking honestly” in inappropriate places. So high fives to the guys for a really great pop song. Overall, this is a really fun record that shows a young band with a lot of promise.
Of course you will go to the full article and check out the rest of the website!

Today our album was supposed to be streamed on punknews, but there were technical difficulties. Story of our lives, man.

Buy The Tape

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

It's out. Go to Ice Age Records to by your tape!
The album that wouldn't come out is finally here! After over a year in the making and getting pushed back further and further, The Please & Thank Yous' full length is finally out.10 songs of energetic, emotional, catchy-as-fuck punk. Imagine if you took some Weezer and Lifetime and threw it in a slap-chop, then sprinkled some Braid on top. And then it sat around and got high and fucked around on its guitar until it found something cool.

Punknews Is Stoked!!! (The Sequel)

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Today Punknews.org posted a loving review (4/5) of our debut album Mind Yr P's & Q's, which came out yesterday. We've really kicked it into high gear: sold about 10 copies of the tape at our release show!

The Full Article Lives Here, but here are some snippits. Obv, you should just go read the whole thing.

"
Their new cassette/digital full-length, Mind Yr P’s & Q’s, shows a rare respect of pop-punk and power-pop musical history that melds a diverse range of influences into a single bright point. You can hear the same careful attention in every minute of this record, which sadly departed bands like the Ergs!, Sicko and J Church were known for without sounding exactly like any of them.

...

TPATY understand that it isn't the grand sweeping gestures of say, Angels & Airwaves, that make great records; it's the little things that on the surface don’t make a large impression, but if removed would devoid the recording of all its charm.

TPATY Reviewed & Interviewed by Reviewsic

Saturday, February 13, 2010

The Chicago-based, always-on-top-of-all-things-indie weblog Reviewsic has written a flattering review of our album, and we did a little interview too! Here's a little snippit. Should you want to read the whole thing (and you should), here's the full article.

Raucous, rowdy, and riot inducing, Chicago Punx The Please and Thank You’s deliver a perfect blend of 90’s emo, garage rock, and inevitably, punk. With a style that stems and flows from such cited influences as Braid and NOFX, The Please and Thank Yous make music meant to be moved around to, something TPATY fans have definitely taken note of over the years.... (continue to the full article)

And for those of you who've never been to Reviewsic.com before, bookmark the site. They do a weekly roundup of shows around town, and they're always talking to or about great bands (La Dispute, Joie De Vivre, Pianos Become The Teeth, and more!)

Fuck Yeah!

Friday, February 12, 2010

Here's a vid of us performing a new song on our weekend tour last weekend, during the Super Bowl. We thought The Who were totally weak, so we tried to make up for it.

If you want to see more from our set, or other bands that I've "filmed", go to my YouTube channel. I record video of some of the bands I go to see and try to put up as many as I can on there.

Also, here's a another write up about us from the internuts, written by Alex Stewart over at Sock Monkey Sound:
Unlike Geronimo, TPATY don’t have any clue about what the fuck they’re doing. That is what’s great about them. They’re hopelessly shambolic in all of the right ways. Classic, cartoonish pop punk. Nice.

I think that's the second review that equates us to shambles. Fuck yeah!

Tour Update

Liarbirds got us on a bill at a house after our first show last night. Do not be alarmed. We are moshing.
